Tippecanoe School Corporation

Wea Ridge Honor Society

Membership Selection Process

The Honor Society is an independent school organization at Wea Ridge Middle School.  Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in four areas of evaluation: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  Standards for selection are established to reflect the goals of citizenship for our school community.  Students are selected for membership by a Faculty Council on behalf of the entire staff of our school each year  The WRM Honor Society advisors, Jill Shambaugh and Kelli Burton, are also appointed by the principal and facilitate all selection procedures and activities each year.

Students in 8th grade are eligible for membership after the completion of the first semester.  For scholarship criteria, a student must have a cumulative middle school GPA of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.  Those students who meet this criterion must  complete a “Candidate Form” to be considered.   Completed forms will be evaluated by the Faculty Council to determine each candidate’s leadership and service as observed by school staff.

To evaluate a candidate’s character, the Faculty Council obtains additional input from staff members and information from school records.  This includes school disciplinary records, staff professional reflections/evaluation of each candidate’s leadership, citizenship, and character.  This information is carefully reviewed by the Faculty Council to determine whether each candidate meets the criteria for membership.  Following a review of the results of the Faculty Council voting by the principal, candidates are notified regarding selection to the Honor Society.

Students selected by the Faculty Council will be notified by email and must communicate that they accept membership into the WRM Honor Society. Once they accept membership, it is expected that members maintain the same level of performance and leadership in all criteria that led to their selection.  This obligation includes regular attendance at meetings and participation in  service projects.  Students or parents who have questions regarding the selection process or membership obligations can contact the advisors listed below.
